Jin Shin Jyutsu (pronounced gin shin jitsu) is the Art of balancing, releasing tensions which are causes for various symptoms in the body. Our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths becomes blocked, the damming effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation can disrupt the local area and may disharmonize complete pathways of energy flow in the body.
At the heart of Jin Shin Jyutsu are the 26 Safety Energy Locks (SELS), special energy sites unique to this Art. Each lock exists on the left side of the body, mirrored on the right side. These are not static points, but spheres of vital life force, each with its own meaning and function. By gently placing hands on these SELS, the flow of energy is supported, allowing the body’s natural healing capacity to unfold.
Think of Safety Energy Locks like the circuit breakers in your home’s electrical system. When stress (resistance) builds, these locks can “trip” like a circuit breaker, signaling that the body is moving toward imbalance. Discomfort may be felt somewhere in the body. When we hold a sequence of SELS energy can flow freely again, bringing harmony and well-being to your whole self.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is offered as a complementary, integrative practice for critical care patients, caregivers (both professional and family/friends), and individuals living with recurring or chronic conditions that flare and recede.
